I don’t know why this defaulted to “review book” rather than to do the first look review. I read an excerpt that was about 50 pages long, not the whole book.
This excerpt begins with family being found dead. Mother, father and two children living at home are all found dead. Based on how peaceful the family looked inside the house, it could have been a gas leak. But the father is found outside the house and things sound more gory on his side.
Two members of the family remain. Matt is in college. Danny is in prison.
Matt was at a party last night and this morning is confronted with the story about his family. He also has to be the one to tell Danny.
Matt hasn’t seen Danny in over 5 years, since Danny was arrested for murdering his girlfriend. It doesn’t sound like Danny actually committed the crime and that led to even more notoriety. There’s a Netflix series about the court case.
Now poor Matt knows that the press will be following his family’s latest drama.
This isn’t my normal type of book but I did find the excerpt compelling. It really pulls you into the story. It makes you wonder if there’s a tie between what happened with Danny and what happened to the rest of the family.
