I am entirely unsure why this book was a Bookishfirst pick and also why so many people are giving this book rave reviews. I ended up DNFing (did not finish) the entire thing over its racist commentary towards latin people. Multiple POC (people or color) reviewers came forward expressing their concerns and frustrations towards this book and it's problematic content. I am disappointed that this book was included on this site as well as even bee published. The author played off several stereotypes that to me seem racist, and to the actual own votes reviewers who read this book also deem as racist. The author's derogatory language towards and about Mexican people in this novel was appalling. I am appalled at how overhyped and racist this book actually was and I am even more ashamed at all the positive glowing reviews for this book that so conveniently overlooked the racist wordage throughout. Do not recommend this book.
