This book started out with a bang with Matt Pine learning that his family has died from an apparent gas leak while vacationing in Mexico. Of course we soon find out that it was not an accident and that it is tied to his brother Danny, who is in jail for the murder of his girlfriend.

There are too many story lines and points of view. While I am a fan of the shorter chapters, there was something about the pacing that didn’t keep me turning the pages. I don’t think each chapter went deep enough, and many of the characters lacked complexity. If this is a psychological thriller, it should take us more into the psyches of all the characters.

I did like Agent Keller and Maggie, strong female protagonists. And I thought one of the things portrayed well was the the father Evan’s love for his children and his determination to exonerate Danny.

I wonder if there will be a sequel featuring Sarah Keller?
