The cover conveys the Shakespeare theme but I thought the title was a bit weird. As for the blurb, I often will put down a book when a blurb starts off with an endorsement quote. To me, that signifies that the publisher isn't confident in the book. Or maybe in this case, isn't sure how to market the book. I didn't get a real sense of what this book is actually about, save for the dead heroines of Shakespeare's tragedies, from the rest of the blurb. Then I almost didn't read the excerpt because of the content warning. While I appreciate the content warning, it made me hesitate. It also made me question why this is being marketed as a YA book. As for the excerpt, the first thing that struck me was the italics and the parenthesis for the stage trap room chapters. I felt it was a bit over the top. I get that it's trying to distinguish the stage trap room but it's a style choice I didn't care for. And then in between, just pages written in verse. Not my cup of tea. The story didn't draw me in, didn't make me want to read more. This is a pass for me.
