Scott Kelly's "Endurance", the title is a call-back to the Shackleton book, is an engaging science read about life aboard the International Space Station (ISS). First, I have a confession to make - this is not my first astronaut memoir. I am a huge fan of Chris Hadfield's "An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth"! This book is a great companion piece, since the two men couldn't be more different. I was fascinated by the author's curmudgeonly take on life aboard the ISS - did you know the CO2 levels tend to run on the high side, causing a lot of astronaut discomfort? (I lost count but am pretty sure this was mentioned at least 5 times.) So, the book left me wondering...do I think that Scott Kelly is a "Hey you kids, get out of my yard" cranky guy only because I read the super positive Chris Hadley account first? If I had read them in the reverse order, would Chris come across as a "glass half full" annoying optimist? Have to admit, I enjoyed the heck out of both of them!
