I had no idea there were so many challenges that astronauts face when returning to earth after extended time in space.

In just the prologue I learned something new—I didn't know that gravity (and the lack of it) could do such a number on the human body. Adding this new knowledge to the lonely time they spend in space, I have a renewed sense of awe and a greater appreciation of their sacrifice.

The book begins with Scott and his family around the dinner table. The closeness and support spills off the pages. Immediately following that you learn that his missions into space takes him away from this closeness, from his family--not just for a day or a week, like the average business trip; instead his's gone for months at a time. And when he returns, he's not quite himself. So in a sense, he's still gone.

Imagine the love and tenacity that endures such a life! This book is that story.
