Scott Kelly, an astronaut who recently returned from a year long mission in space, is back at home re-adjusting to life on earth. Everything feels foreign. In fact, his body is having a hard time readjusting to life on earth and gravity, etc. He wakes up one night with swollen legs and having broken out in a rash. He's concerned, though understands this is in fact the exact reason why he volunteered to spend the year in space -- to see how the human body would react to such a mission.

As a child, Scott was prone to life-threatening activities. He was not a scholar and never had the drive to succeed until one night in his first year in college he discovered a book about Navy pilots. He realized this was purpose in life.

I enjoyed this short excerpt and I know it will be a thrilling read, given his propensity to engage in life-risking behaviors.
