I was so excited to receive a physical ARC of the book and I was chomping at the bit to start reading it. That excitement quickly went to the wayside soon after I started.
I'm probably not the target audience for this novel as I just couldn't seem to get into the flow of the story. Perhaps it was the poetry-like storytelling that didn't appeal to me. However, I did like the Amish feel to the township that seemed to have a sinister agenda.
The characters to me where a little boring. I probably just got a negative vibe from the get go so that must have slanted my opinion of them.
Some issues that I had with the book were: Why are strangers not welcome to stay? How and why do only mothers disappear? Do the disappearances come at a certain age? What is the deal with the hairpin? Maybe the answers are there at the end; but I wasn't about to slog through 58% more of the book to find out. One unfortunate star.
