This books seems mysterious and eerie. The people in town all accept that girls grow up to be mothers and then simply disappear without explanation one day. This is something that is normal for them, so it is not questioned very much. However, the community seems to be stuck in their own world, which makes me wonder what else is out there and what others outside of their town know about them.
