Vera lives in an isolated place in a mysterious community cut off from whatever is outside of their rules. A stranger comes to town and highlights the differences for Vera as she comes of age and into a new status as a mother. The prose is gorgeous and flows nicely. It feels reminiscent of Margaret Atwood, Sarah Waters, and Emily Mandel.
