The first couple of pages were filled with beautiful descriptions and the word choices led to immediate questions about the mystery of this place and these people. The imagery was detailed and I could picture the grossness of children in an uncomfortable way. The author does a great job establishing culture in the first few pages and sets the tone for the rest of the story.
