This was the first time I was reading a work by Alexis, and I have to say that I see themes in this novel that can be comparable to Margaret Atwood's dystopic novel, A Handmaid's Tale. I lost my mother to cancer almost six years ago, and the sudden disappearance of the mothers from the novel's universe as the remaining family tries to pick up the pieces is all too familiar to me! I can't wait to read this novel because there are so many familiar themes embedded within the novel.
