At first glance, this book is totally not something I would read. The cover gives away that it's a YA novel, and it also portrays a magical realism (whether that was intended or not). I'm not particularly into either of those genres. I had a hard time getting into this excerpt. Nothing against the writer, I think perhaps this just isn't my favorite genre.
