We get a glimpse of Veronica and her friends - Nazareth and Leo who are in their senior college. The excerpt is just the first chapter so I wasn't able to get a lot of details as it only describes Veronica's feelings toward Leo (her friend) and Sawyer (the new guy). The writing style is easy to decipher, no hifalutin words, perfect for the YA audience. Veronica also described herself as petite (4'9 feet) with curly golden hair and blue eyes, Leo seems like a nice guy too and I appreciate that the author created Leo as a beautiful black guy, he's just adorable. I am yet to appreciate Sawyer as the excerpt only described him based on Veronica and her friends' perception, so I'm curious as to who is Sawyer really and why did he break his arm. What's with the village and why do they have to choose between hiding or dying.
