I really enjoyed going through Draw and Paint Super Cute Animals by Jane Maday with my two daughters. The book included both pencil and watercolor tutorials of a variety of animals, both domestic and wild. It also went into depth into the craft of art, describing the different types of materials, color families, and basic drawing techniques rather than being strictly a traditional step-by-step how to draw book. The animals featured were both realistic, such as the ducklings and donkey, and whimsical, such as the fox wearing a hat and the surprised kitten. I found enlightening that she points out key elements of creating artistic characters by reminding the amateur artists to think of variations within certain animals, such as proportional changes from puppyhood to adulthood in dogs. Overall, I would recommend this book to animal looking to develop their animal drawing abilities.
