Cute, but not quite a How To
This book is cute and full of good examples of single animal illustrations, but isn’t really a step by step instruction. The steps are like 1. Draw a dog that looks like this. 2. Fill in that dog with watercolor 3. Layer colored pencil detail on top of that.
I have an 8 year old daughter who really enjoys how to draw books but she got a little frustrated with the lack of easy to follow steps on this one. I would definitely say this is for more advanced artists who have basic animal drawing down already.
There are nice suggestions and little observations about certain animal traits that were fun, and the book covers a wide range of animals including domestic animals, obscure animals, sea creatures, etc.
