The animals really are cute and it is obvious that the author can draw. However, based on what I read, it does not seem as if this is a book for beginners. This book does show how an artist puts together circles, triangles, etc. to make an animal shape, but then it jumps to the colored in animal with no steps on how the artist can get there.
She does explain what materials she likes to use and she lists the materials she used for the drawings in the book, which probably helps artists who already understand the art of sketching, drawing, shading and coloring.
