Although I didn't find the excerpt of Dragonslayer as compelling as I would have liked, it did introduce the main characters and plot centering around magic. What I loved was the perspective of the dragon. It's nice to see the dragon portrayed as a character with emotions and motives. The dragon also looks great on the cover of the book.
