Decent Read but Something More to be Desired

I think the concept is spectacular. The bones of a great psychological thriller are there, the format of alternating points of view worked well, and I really liked the epilogue. The sisters' relationship was interesting to piece together.

However, the biggest thing that is preventing me from giving this a higher rating is that I am not the biggest fan of Bidonde's writing style. The dialogue felt a little off, a lot of points that would have major exposition--like the actual murder and their backstory--felt rushed while I felt the characters droned on and on about very simple things, and Bidonde rightfully teased important details but they ultimately fell flat. Because of all this, it took me much, much longer to get through this than other books. I could only read in short spurts until the last third of the novel when things started to get exciting. I did consider DNFing this.

I did read an ARC, so some of these issues may very well have been resolved in the final copy though. Overall, a great concept with interesting plot points, but not my favorite to actually read.
