My attention was completely captured when I learned that the author wrote this memoir following his inheritance of land in a beach town that had been passed down through his maternal family line (the white side of his family). Since he is biracial, as he delves into the prior history of the land he has just inherited, he realizes that his past on both sides of his family is intertwined with themes and events that resonate to the current day.
