I didn't read book description prior reading the first 20 or so pages. My first thought reading first few paragraphs - he lost his wife (thinking about empty seat next to him in his car, talking about, I assumed, her mother "is it weird that I'm calling her by her name"). Then I realized it was his son... What an awful tragedy to a man...
