When I first started reading this book, I had no idea whose perspective I was in or who they were talking about. It took me several pages to understand that our narrator was not another teenager dealing with the death of a friend, but a father-figure, and then perhaps even a father dealing with the death of a child. I'm not sure I ever felt the connection between the narrator and the child. But I'm curious how the rest of the story grows out of that death.
