This was exactly the fun, kick ass team novel I needed. Post apocalyptic community leaders are cool but post apocalyptic librarians who give out books and hold movie nights are way better. Pair that with a team of mercs trying to escape their bosses’ grasp and there is just no stopping the action. Nina and Knox are dynamic and powerful team leaders, but their teams and the interactions are what makes this book so interesting and enjoyable. I just love the strong character must protect the soft, smart character trope and it’s done so well here. The tech and genetics modifications add a whole extra level of cool. This book seems like a set-up for an exciting series and I can’t wait to see how the rest of the secrets play out. My only complaint is that the pacing at the end of the book was a little off for me, but that didn’t affect my enjoyment of the story nor my desire for the next book.
