I had high expectations for this new apocalyptic fantasy novel. I wanted to read this one because of the promise of kick-ass librarians and a thrilling story with interesting characters. I got a little bit of that but not nearly enough. I won't go into spoilers because this is a July 2020 release.
I was hoping for the novel to focus on the apocalyptic library/librarian aspect of the story that pulled me in. However, it was discussed but not focused on, instead, it focused more on the romance/relationships between characters. I struggled to connect with the characters and their storylines. The action and romance overshadowed the characters.
I enjoyed the first third of the novel as the world and characters were developed but I struggled to stay gripped by the story in the final half. It was just an okay read for me.
I still recommend checking out this new Fantasy series but it was not for me.
