This book honestly had me hooked from the first scene, when I realized that there was some post-apocalyptic Resident Evil vibes going strong. I was on the fence as to if I would expect this to be amazing or to be over-the-top apocalyptical, and honestly I think that they pulled it off very well.

Nina was an interesting character and while she was a supersoldier of sorts, I appreciated her backstory and the fact that everything she did was entirely in character with someone who has lost everything and found everything again. While her and her crew’s protection of the community is stated several times, I do wish that we had seen it more, though this was much more of a road trip book. Knox is the grumpy man who has given up on there being any real good in the world and the fact that he is willing to do literally anything for his crew was almost heart-breaking at points.

The romance was intense at points, which I did expect and as much as others claim they saw the twist coming, I honestly didn’t because apparently I wasn’t looking in that direction. I will give this a 3.5 out of 5 on the spice scale, it was very well done and I enjoyed it immensely!

The crews themselves were hilarious and so different and I can’t wait to jump into the next books in the series to figure out what happens next! I look forward to seeing what happens when they are not on the road and how the crews settle into their new positions. There is a betrayal part of this story, you find out about it pretty early on, and I am glad that after said betrayal there was a time of intense mistrust but also understanding for the reasoning, it wasn’t a pretty bow type of thing, it was true to the emotions and feelings of the characters themselves.

I can’t recommend this book enough, I highly enjoyed it. 4.5 out of 5 from me, and if you enjoyed Resident Evil, Orphan Black, or any other post-apocalyptic world and don’t mind some romance setting in then pick this up!! Not to mention there are so amazing quotes throughout!!
