How Is This A Debut?

I decided to give this book a shot even though the whole missing person plot isn’t usually my thing. There are so many books out there with that premise that I often skip them entirely. But this is a missing person in a town full of psychics which made me curious how this was going to play out. Right from the beginning the description is vivid and makes you feel like you’re right there with the MC, Greycie. Most stories don’t take place in humid, swampy areas so that location gave the story a completely different feel. The backstory was given to us little by little throughout the story in a way that was natural and didn’t hinder the flow of the story. So many debut novels struggle with this concept and give dense info dumps early on in the story.

The way the author describes characters, feelings, and locations is so rich you can’t help but find yourself caught up in the story and all the stakes. Sain doesn’t use the same tactics most authors do to confuse readers and it keeps you suspecting everyone because everyone loved the missing character, Elora. It had me second guessing myself and changing my guess all the way until the end. This was a great story that was so well written I’m shocked it’s a debut. Definitely keeping an eye out for this author. The book seems to be doing well on Goodreads and the praise is well worth it. A 5 star read.
