I wasn't sure what to expect with this one, but I purchased it based on the setting and the magic...I was NOT disappointed. As a Southerner, I'm drawn to novels that are set in places that feel familiar to me...I may not be a psychic from the swamps of Louisiana, but who's to say I don't know someone who is??? The characters are all unique and even relatable. The impending threat of the storm combined with the unfolding (DOUBLE)mystery makes for just the right amount of tension. I'm a sucker for a book that pulls together stories from the past with what's happening in the present, and this does that extremely well. While this is billed as a young adult novel and it's definitely completely suitable for that age group, it also has plenty of things to offer an adult reader. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys magical realism with YA flair. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for more from this author.
