This book was an amazing and really wonderful read. The Louisiana swamp setting laced with cajun culture was really fun to follow along to. Additionally, the magic and supernatural theme incorporated into the story really left me hooked and wanting to read more. I really loved how some of the pages resembled tarot cards with flashbacks because of the heavy presence of psychics in this story. Usually, characters make or break a book for me; however, these characters were really complex, enjoyable, relatable, and extremely interesting. Especially, with the first point of view of this book, how the characters are written is really important and the author did a wonderful job. Furthermore, the author nailed the dark mysterious supernatural vibe.

The most exciting part I was looking forward to is how the author of Dark and Shallow Lies would craft the mysterious disappearance (possible murder) of Elora. How creepy and the secrets, lies, and betrayals came to light and bombarded me was absolutely incredible. There were so many twists and turns in this story and it had me at the edge of my seat especially the ending. However, as much as I enjoyed reading the book, I just wished the ending wasn't so rushed.

All in all, I 100% recommend reading this book. Especially with fall and October coming around this is a perfect book to read at this time. I also want to thank Bookishfirst and Penguin read for this arc.
