While the cover immediately grabbed my attention, I was truly hooked on the idea of psychics with secrets. Those two things don't seem like they can coincide, so I was really interested in exploring that.
The first impression also immediately gives a great sense of atmosphere. The character's speech is written how it would be said, we get a feel of the Louisiana heat with the horseflies buzzing around, and the descriptions of the shops bring a lot of character. I think that all this will add an additional layer of immersivness to the story.
