"Dark and Shallow Lies" - what a thought-provoking title! Rarely does a book's title alone draw you in to satisfy your curiosity, but this one did me. Opening to the first page of stand-alone prologue continues to intrigue, echoing the darkness of the title, lyrical and poetical, and summoning images of night, forest, and dread. On to page one, paragraph one, sentence one, and every step leads the reader to an exciting journey of questioning and discovery. In short, concise, yet literary bursts, we are quickly set in a very specific place that literally feels swampy, Southern and humid, with two interesting characters that gracefully develop the beginnings of the plot. Teenage girls communicating over a shared piece of stale gum. A missing best friend. A town full of psychics, but none of them have conjured the whereabouts of
Elora? I can't wait to devour the rest!
