It is time I write a review for one of my favorite books of all time.
This one follows Darius. When his grandpa gets sick and they take a trip to Iran, Darius meets his mother side of the family in real for the first time. He also gets his first real friend: Sohrab.

I don’t want to write too much about the plot, but this book carries a lot. There is deep dynamics between Darius and his father, they have this conflict between them and it is hard and heartbreaking. It was one of the best aspect of the novel, because it was not easy or glossed over, it was very well written. Darius also has depression, and gets asked over and over WHY he is sad. He doesn’t really have an answer, nothing “horrible” happened to him, but he is still depressed. This is not understood by everyone around him, and is also something the author has struggled with himself. The book is mostly set in Iran, where we get introduced to wonderful Persian food and culture. I loved the setting, Darius’s family and how much he loves them, but don’t know how to tell them. All the different sides of Darius were so well written, all the dynamics, conflicts, happy and sad moments got to me. I read this earlier this year, and I still think about it. I never expected to love it as much as I did, but I cried, laughed and gasped. This is a book I can never recommend enough. 10/5 stars.
