A book about a socially awkward kid who takes a family trip to Iran, where his family’s from. He quickly makes friend with a neighbourhood boy named Sohrab, and they spend lots of time together. It’s a book about finding your own identity, and feeling comfortable in an unfamiliar place.
I didn’t love this book. It was, unfortunately, too boring and a little childish for my taste, since the characters sound about 10 or 12 years old (I believe they are 14 or 15 though). The plot, while probably important, was minimal, and so didn’t really like any of the characters. I think Sohrab was rude for some of the book, and Darius (the main character) was very cut-and-dry (he is also probably relatable for a lot of people, but i found it boring). I did enjoy reading it though, because it was very different from what I normally read.
I would recommend this to younger ya readers or people who enjoy found family/learning-about-yourself type books.
