Darius the Great is Not Okay is a beautiful, heart wrenching novel. It follows the story of Darius, who lives in America and wasn't much in contact with his Persian roots before going to Iran because his grandfather has a brain tumor. Darius is a really sweet, nerdy character who doesn't quite fit in at school. When he goes to Iran, however, he begins to learn more about himself while navigating the themes of family, friendship, and identity. The writing is compelling, engaging, and humorous, and the plot is very character driven. Over the course of the novel, you really see Darius grow. I also really loved the friendship between Darius and Sohrab. Even though this book was sad, it also left me with a big smile on my face.
