How the story is told may take some getting used to. However, what the author does really well is hone in on Darius's POV. You never doubt for a second the character is the one that should be at the center. They are unapologetically themselves and it's a wonderful message to promote to teens.

What I also enjoyed about this book is the many different topics that are tackled between family, identity, depression, and figuring out how to connect to those around you. There are a lot of references to sci-fi and fantasy which adds to the voice of the MC (Lord of the Rings and Star Trek.)

Overall, I think this book has a lot to offer to those who read it. It feels real, not so much that this is a story, but the reader is a part of it.
