From The Start...Got Me In My Feels..
Darius the Great Is Not Okay is such a great title. What seems like a typical and obvious American style title...pleasantly surprised that it is not but rather one centered around the Persian culture while also both conflicting and connecting with much of what is popular culture when speaking of movies, and books, and sports...etc.
Easily and immediately pulls at the heartstrings of every and all book lovers.. Darius has all the same desires and hobbies and interests as most typical teenagers yet feels no connection to his Persian culture...
Reading further I imagine that all that changes..and it intrigues me to know how he finds his balance...his identity in the world and makes things uniquely his own while feeling connected to where he came from.
