Promising Wattpad Debut With Series Potential
Thank you to Bookish First for an ARC!
Crossbones by Kimberly Vale has a very promising premise, but the story failed to deliver enough for a standalone novel. The characters had deep dark secrets that were not fleshed out enough, and this book felt like the first in a duology or trilogy, which is not necessarily a bad thing. There is certainly series potential here, but perhaps it should have been marketed as such?
The worldbuilding at times was a little sparse and shallow, so it was difficult to imagine this story world as unique to the story and not fill it in with other typical, genre elements. I wanted to see more of the Bone Trials and venture into the plot, but felt like Crossbones took a little while to settle into the story and take the reader on the adventure.
I really wanted to love this book, but it promises more than it delivers. It is a promising Wattpad debut with potential for an expanded series.
