Crossbones is a very intriguing debut novel. Perfect for those who love tough, all-female pirate crews, champion brutes who are actually marshmallows, and dirty fights for a crown all wound around gods, witches, and a path paved by friendship and fate.
When the Trials start and all of our characters are forced into one situation is when the action really starts to pick up. Fights, near death, and multiple secrets are unearthed under the dense canopy of the Crossbones island. All of which plays out in a captivating (yet somewhat lopsided) adventure quest.
Overall, it is a very captivating debut novel but there’s just a lack of detail to the world and characters that was sorely missed. I’m so glad to see that it’s going to be part of a series because I really do love the concepts of these gods and this world full of magic and piracy. I can wait to see it all fleshed out further.
