Exciting Premise

I might be biased by loving a good pirate, but I do think this book looks neat! I think the premise of a competition to rule is also very compelling, especially when it reveals how this sort of world works.

So far, I definitely like Csilla the most, along with her crew--they seem very cool and it's clear she's a super experienced pirate. In addition, the relationship she has with her sister seems fascinating, where they both clearly care about and rely on each other, but there's the clear undercurrent that her sister doesn't respect Csilla as captain that I think lends itself to a very interesting dynamic. I do think that their escape could've been a bit faster paced, but there's definitely time for things to pick up of course.

I wasn't really a huge fan of Kane honestly--I don't doubt that he's going to get some good growth over the course of the book so it's not necessarily fair to judge him off of where he starts out, but at least for now he's a bit too cocky for my tastes. I also think that his dynamic with his father could've been revealed a bit more slowly and subtly, but it's certainly not ruining the book for me. Based off of this impression, I'll likely be reading this book when it comes out, and I'm excited for it (and the pirates)!
