Crochet Animal Rugs by Ira Rott has cover art that is very inviting. With animal patterns that will fit the theme of many a child's room, crafters will delight in the projects - big and small - that make up this book. The author does a good job of explaining the art of crochet to newcomers, starting with an all important guide of how to use the book and its patterns. With charts for tools and materials, as well as descriptions of how to complete the finished pieces, crafters will be able to bring their hard work to fruition with Crochet Animal Rugs.

The projects range in difficulty level from beginner to challenging, so those new to crochet can get their feet wet with the Pillow Bases (p. 130-133), then move on to the more difficult parts of the pillow, like the Monkey Pillow (p. 81-86). As a newbie to crochet, the most important part, besides the guide at the beginning of the book, are the pages of crochet terminology, abbreviations, and how-to instructions. The author thoughtfully has included a special page of instructions for left-handed crochet artists. With cute animal projects for the monkey, giraffe, cat, panda, crab, and dinosaur lover, readers are sure to find inspiration in this book. As there is not a lot here for a beginner, Crochet Animal Rugs may be more applicable for the more experienced crafter. With bright, colorful pages and great instructions, I would definitely recommend Crochet Animal Rugs to other readers.
