Coven is a contemporary fantasy murder mystery graphic novel with main f/f and m/m relationships. Before I even get to the meat of the story, I want to first comment on how much I enjoyed the art. Kit Seaton did a brilliant job illustrating this novel and their artistry really added to the story.

This was a really fun, quick read. It has the perfect autumn witchy vibes that I always look for in September/October. The plot wasn't too complex and I guessed most of the plot twists before they happened but I didn't mind too much. I didn't expect too much coming in so I wasn't disappointed with what I got.

I do wish that the ending hadn't been as rushed and I can't tell whether or not this was set up as a standalone or a sequel (because there are some questions left unanswered). If it's standalone, then there's a lot that goes unexplained and I wish that there had been more pages at the end that just wrap things up a bit better.

My favorite part of the graphic novel was how normalized the queer relationships are. It made me feel very warm and cozy, and there's no biphobia/homophobia anywhere. When the main character says she has a girlfriend, the other character doesn't respond with someone like "What? You're gay?" It's just as normalized as a m/f relationship would be. To me, that really stood out –– that's the kind of representation I would have liked to see when I was in high school because maybe it would have helped me with my own identity.

Overall, three stars. It was an easy, quick fantasy. Not the best that I've read but it was enjoyable, and I'd read the sequel if there was one.
