I received a complimentary copy of COVEN written by Jennifer Dugan and illustrated by Kit Seaton from Bookish First! Thank you to G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for the chance to read and provide an honest review!

COVEN is a YA graphic novel. Esmy is a young witch who has lived with her family in California. When her parents inform her that something has happened to their coven in New York and they must relocate to be there, Esmy is devastated. She must leave behind her girlfriend and her best friend and take up a life her parents have told her nothing about. Members of her family’s coven have been murdered and there is some dark power threatening them. Esmy has never spent a lot of time honing her abilities, so she must learn what it means to be part of a coven and how to wield her power to protect those she cares about.

This was a prefect read for witchy season and I had a lot of fun getting to know Esmy and seeing the ways her magic was developed and the way the illustrations helped bring that to life. There are a lot of typical teen feelings in here in terms of not feeling like you fit in and the fear of having to leave everyone you know and care about behind. I did like learning about magic and the coven from Esmy’s perspective since she too needed to learn everything as well.

COVEN is a great read for the season and it is available now!
