I haven't read many graphic novels but the premise for Coven, and its cover, had me curious. I really enjoyed the drawing style on display here. I sometimes feel overwhelmed by graphic novels but Coven presents just the right combination of illustration and text. I was swept up in the story right away, being a fan of anything "witchy" and am looking forward to reading more.

In the sneak peak, we are introduced to Emily (also called Emsy and Em), a West Coast teenager, who has her life turned upside down in an instant. Her plans to spend the morning surfing are interrupted by her parents informing her that there has been an "incident" involving their coven on the East Coast. Em's parents have decided they need to move back east, to be with their coven and to meet possible dangers ahead. Moving back east will also provide Em with a chance to work on her skills as a fire elemental. A heartbroken Em is forced to say goodbye to her girlfriend and friends, and leave for the East Coast the very next day.
