First, I have to say that it drives me NUTS when someone writes a series that you can't read the books standalone. NOT THIS ONE! I didn't even know it was a part of a Trilogy until I saw the title on Amazon after I'd already read the book.

Historical fiction is not normally my jam. But the heroine in this tale is a badass, and I'm a sucker for that. Star crossed lovers on opposite sides of a war, Saffron and Gerhard are both trying to follow their hearts and retain enough of themselves to return to each other when the war is over. This is a pretty realistic tale, with graphic detail of the war crimes of the Nazi's, of a British spy and a Nazi pilot (who of course really has a good heart and is a prisoner of his own army) who fall in love before the war and try to survive it. I enjoyed it a lot!
