In many ways, this was a classic WWII historical spy thriller book, but Wilbur Smith manages to add just enough new intrigue (coupled with excellent characters and compelling writing) to create a truly magnificent and enjoyable read that is sure to leave readers desperately waiting to devour the next installment in Smith's oeuvre.

Smith smoothly and seamlessly draws readers into the historic setting (no easy feat the further we get away from WWII!) and simultaneously creates a masterful plot.

I think most readers of historical fiction would enjoy this book, but I would also recommend it to readers who have been a bit hesitant to dip their toes into the tumultuous waters of historical fiction-- this book would be a great introduction to the genre and will surely leave the reader wanting more historical fiction in their lives going forward!
