Saffron and Gerhard?
This sounded like it would be a fascinating historical novel, but several things have put me off from wanting to read the rest of the book.
One, the prose is more like a cheap romance than a serious historical fiction novel. Two, I don't really like Saffron. She is really into herself. She and Gerhard are just too perfect -- like dolls or action figures. Three, the first impression cuts off in the middle of a sentence. Who does that?
