I love a good historical novel with multiple layers and this book seems to have that. Lovers who are torn apart by Hitler's War .. I am fascinated by Saffron's smarts and toughness but also her sultry womanly side. Especially since during the late 1930's and 1940's women were not looked at as being tough, smart or cunning. I am curious as to what happens to both Saffron and Gerhard during the war, what their roles are and will they be reunited in the end. I am also curious as to see if the story about Gerhard and his brother develops seeing that they seem to have opposite view points of the war. And also how does Gerhard's Jewish friend Izzy play a role in this story, does and is he able to keep the two lovers connected during this historical event.
I am curious how the rest of the book will be written, back and forth between Saffron and Gerhard or is Izzy's perspective going to be told as well. It definitely has my attention … who survives, who doesn't, will love conquer, how will the war change the characters?
