People newly in love can be self absorbed and annoying, and I found these Saffron and Gerhard to be over the top grating.

I took notes from the first impression so that I could clearly remember the words that made me grit my teeth.
"He was a mate fit for such a paragon."
"Truly, Saffron Courtney and Gerhard von Meerbach seemed blessed by all the gods, for they were as rich and well connected as they were pleasing to the eye."

Then, this sentence made me want to burn my laptop. It references a friend of Saffron's.
"They were a pair, Chessi and Saffy: one a sweet, sensible German girl, the other a barely tamed child of Africa."

The First Impression swiftly transitioned to the war activities of Saffron, so I may have liked the book if I had been able to read more.

The cover is okay. It didn't convey any covert war time activities to me, but the purpose of the book may be much more than I was able to realize from a first impression.
