Although this review may not be popular with fans of romance novels, my opinion is that the author did a real disservice to Anne by diving deep into the romance aspects of her life. I liked both of the main characters, as Anne and Danny are sewn together from the same fabric. Both are passionate about their jobs and their loved ones, both are strong willed and determined, and both fight to win at all costs. As a firefighter and an arson investigator, the team has many possibilities for future plot lines. Where the book falls short for me is the romance. The arson cases were enough to carry the plot, especially considering how the book started. A touch of romance would have been fine, but I thought that the author cheapened what could have been a great suspense novel. I wanted to feel more of a connection between the main characters, but the dialogue just never reached an emotional level for me. Readers who like romantic suspense will more than likely be fans of Consumed, but the book was an average read for me.
