So often myths and legends are told from the viewpoint of the men. This one tells the story of a woman, a queen and mother, who patiently waited for her chance to claim her revenge.

I admired Clytemnestra's strength of mind and body. She's not the weak princess her more famous sister, Helen, portrays. She leads a seemly charmed life; favorite daughter of her father, trained to battle, and a mind for politics. It's her strength and intelligence that had me rooting for her from the beginning. Agemennon, on the other hand, was dislikable from the first meeting and his hunger for power was evident.

Casati breathes life into the characters and events of ancient myth, weaving a story of one woman's revenge. The kingdoms of Sparta and of Mycenae come to life on the page. The middle does drag on a bit but makes sense in the end and it's a thoroughly enjoyable read!
