Cilka is taken to Auschwitz-Birkenau camp at 16 years old in 1942. Because she is very beautiful, she is separated from the other women. After liberation, the Soviets accuse her of conspiring with and spying for the Nazis and she is taken to a labor camp in Siberia. The plot interests me as I enjoy historical fiction, particularly WWII. The writing style is descriptive yet not overwhelmingly so. The fact that this is based on a true story makes it all the more intriguing to me. The character of Cilka seems so strong from the get-go yet you also see her doubt and fear. I have yet to read The Tattooist of Auschwitz but it is high on my to-read list. If this book fits in with that one, I am sure this will be high on my list as well.
